This week on the Raw Islam Podcast with Imam Azhar– a 2017 Podcast Award nominated podcast, our question of the question of the week for our listeners is – What does giving thanks really mean?
This episode opens with Imam Azhar recapping last weeks show and asking B.C. Dodge where he feels safe. B.C. then talks about all the things that have happened over the last 10 years and how he doesn’t feel safe in the places that one should normally feel safe.
Imam Azhar then goes on to talk about Thanksgiving and what it really should be and mean – not just to Muslims, but to everyone.
There are always jokes about “1st World Problems,” but at this time of year when we get upset of canned verses fresh cranberries, when we get upset that that one family member is bringing that one dish that they always make but no one really likes, we have to remember that there are people in this world have not eaten meat in months…in some parts of the world they only get meat once a year.
Imam Azhar recounts going to the store with his parents late on Sundays and the grocery store had been picked clean. But today trucks show up all the time bringing more and more food – most of which will end up going to waste within the next few days or weeks.
Imam Azhar then issues a challenge to all our listeners… we don’t know what is going on inside our co-workers or our neighbors head or house. They may be one of those people where one missed paycheck can send them into a downward spiral. Why not event those people over to eat Thanksgiving Dinner with you?
