This week on the Raw Islam podcast with Imam Azhar, the show is opened with a question from the Imam – Why is it important for listeners of this podcast to understand where Islam stands on specific issues?
The reason that Raw Islam takes questions from anyone – who asks them nicely – and we answer them is that there is already so much misinformation in the world that is already tied to the name of Islam that facts need to be stated over and over again. When we suffer from misinformation, be it about Muslims or Jews or African-Americans, all we do is widen that gap of us vs them, and that is further from where the world needs to be at this moment.
The Raw Islam podcast shares facts about Islam without sugar coating them, we address the taquitos head on so that we can come to a better understanding of each other to build a better society through understanding each other, rather than believing misinformation that is spewed on television.
Terrorism is putting others in a state of fear where they can’t find safety. So why is it that acts that fit this meaning are only called so when they are perpetrated by a Muslim?
If a Muslim kills a person with a car, the media is quick to call it terrorism. But when a young white male in Charlottesville does the same thing it is not referred to as terrorism, why is that? Does ones’ religion change the nature of a crime?
And the word terrorism is often followed by the phrase “My World.” But how is it your world? Isn’t it our world?
Everyone should have a space in this world where they feel safe and they feel protected and not judged, regardless of their race, culture, religion, or sexual orientation. We are not talking about a “safe place,” we are talking about feeling safe around other humans.
One rumor that seems to keep going is that of General John J. Preshing and his killing of Muslims with bullets dipped in pig’s blood. As we have talked about before on this show… pork is not kryptonite to Muslims, we just don’t eat it! That doesn’t mean we can’t touch it…but we digress, according to Snopes “We found no references to this alleged incident in Pershing biographies, however, nor does it match the way Pershing is generally recorded as having dealt with the Moros in 1911. When they refused to obey Pershing’s order banning firearms by surrendering their weapons, his response was to draft a letter to the Moros expressing sorrow that his soldiers had to resort to killing them to enforce the order…”
