Welcome to the second Islamic Faith in Focus Podcast with Imam Hassan, last week the Imam went over the basic five pillar of Islam, join us this week as he goes a little more in-depth into the 5 pillars.
As a reminder of the first episode of this podcast, Imam Hassan reminds us that the five pillars of Islam are the shahada (stating that there is no God but God, and that Mohammed is his final messenger); Salat or prayer (praying the 5 prayers daily); Zakat (donating to charity); fasting on Ramadan; and the Hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca.
As this episode goes deeper the Imam talks about who is Allah. Allah is the Arabic word for God, in Islam we believe that there is only one God – as Prophet Abraham (m.a.b.p.w.h.) believed and taught. God is not a person or a thing, and as Muslims we are only supposed to worship God.
This leads to one of the other five pillars, which is prayer. Since God is the almighty and all things are in his control, when we struggle with personal issues… be they money, work, relationships, even health, it is important to remember to take our issues to the One Almighty Creator and give our issues and problems to him. After all God is all knowing and all seeing.
The Imam illustrates this point by saying that God can see “a black ant, on a black rock, in the blackness of night.” Thus, he can see what we do and he knows our needs better than anyone.
